About Me: My name is Becky, I live in Beechgrove TN. Most of My family is in Latrobe PA. When we take chinchillas back and forth to PA or along the way, I get to see my family, or they get to come see me. My first two chinchillas were given to my by a neighbor, they were 2 Standard Grey males ("Chico and Chilli") and we were not sure of their age, they had been passed to a few homes by the time I got them. We had them for years. Then they passed. A few years latter while I was in 4-H (for Horses) Another member of our 4-H group had a chinchillas for sale. I missed my chinchillas so we went to go look. And we brought home "Isabella" a Heter. Beige. who was suppose to be a girl. Need less to say she was a male. So we called him "Bella". I always have loved animals, and wanted to find my thing. I did not want to raise kittens or puppy's or anything like that. Because I wanted to be different. Finally I found my thing and I decided on Chinchillas. I take great pride in my chinchillas. After many years of research, and just have them as pets. We decided to find "Bella" a wife. Who turned out to be "Opal" a Heter Beige Female. And there first baby they had was "Diamond" a Homo. Beige Chinchilla. Some of you may recognize some of these names on your pedigrees. I still have "Bella" to this DAY!! That is when the RAZ Chinchilla heard was born. Okay so now some more about me. I have Horses and have been riding since Childhood. We have showed in many competitions! Have won Hundreds of Ribbons and Trophies. Some times a girls place is on her Horse. We have Paints, and Quarter Horses. My husband rides with us on occasion. Our Horses names are: Blondie, Penny, Banjo, and Coosa. My other pets include: All of our chinchillas. Dodger and Little Baily our 2 Cocker Spaniels. Indy our Coatiumdi. Chubs our Great Pyrenees. Jasmine our Rottweiler. We keep very busy, I try to get back to every email or phone call as soon as possible, but animal care comes first! I am always happy to help with any questions. I look forward to my email's, I can not Thank all of you who send me pictures of my baby chinchillas enough. I wish I could watch them all grow up, and by you sending me pictures all the time and updates I can not tell you how much I look forward to getting them. THANK YOU!!!! I have had pets my whole life! ..........I love animals!..........I wish I would have be came a VET!!!! If you have a suggested chinchilla article please let me know. I love learning in depth health information and articles, we get the MCBA magazines and the Empress Chinchilla Magazines. I look forward to every time ones comes. I always want to keep as up to date on anything learned. Me becoming a breeder of chinchillas, I decided that I wanted to give out care sheets and starter packages of food and stuff. I wish some one would have done this for me when I got my first chins. So I wanted to go above and beyond with my chins and a starter package. With our baby chins if for any reason the baby's need to he hand feed. We put 110% effort in to every baby! Hand feeding warming up the milk and feeding every 2 hours day and night. We make every effort for every baby to make it!! I love my chins and will do what every I need to do for them. I revolve my life around all my animals and will do everything I can for them. When My horse Coosa got sick with Colic I dropped every thing. This was on a Monday, I came home from Working a full shift and noticed he was not right he behavior he was acting just a little different. My Husband thought he was fine. The small change was just enough for me to notice, but so small it was small enough for my husband to miss it. Well I watched him very close for about half an hour and then I called the vet. The vet was here about 2 hours latter. Coosa got a gallon mineral oil put down in to his stomach. The vet told me we were going to be in for a long night. I walked him all Thu the night. (In case you don't know when a horse colics it is very important that they do not roll, it could twist their intestine closed and kill them.)Any time he would try to lay down we would walk more. **The next day was Tuesday. We took him by trailer to the horse hospital. He had to get IV fluids. I stayed with him all day. I was in a chair in his stall with him the whole time we were at the vet so he did not roll. He had the biggest IV bags I have ever seen. I took him home when the vet office closed and keep a eye on him all night, I stayed with him all night with no sleep. He was aloud to lay down but was not aloud to roll. It was a very long night. **Then Wenday same thing back to the Horse Hospital more IV bags and then back home for night watch. By this time I have not sleep since Sunday night, I could not pull another night by my self. I asked a friend to come help so I could get a few hours of sleep. Coosa was never left alone. **Thursday back to the vet for more IV and back home for the night watch. This was the hardest night, he was in pain and so uncomfortable. This really was the make or break night. His tummy swelled up so big. Then me and my friend were out there with him and we watched him start passing gas, then poop. We were jumping up and down with excitement, watching Mr Coosa deflate his tummy. It was the best night ever!!! **We went back to the vet again on Friday and the vet said we were out of the woods, and Coosa was going to be okay and get better. And finally I returned to work for part of a day on Friday. Coosa's Colic was a emotional roll coaster, he would show good signs and then bad. It was the hardest week of my life. I pulled many days and nights with NO SLEEP, trailer him back and forth to the horse hospital daily. With a great friend and my husband and vets that helped me and Coosa make it. He is a picture of him. |
