You need to get the following books and do a ton of research FIRST! Find all the books you can.
the best books I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH DO RESEARCH FIRST!!!!!!!!!!

Breeding is not all fun, many times there are problems, it requires a lot of work and dedication.
Q1: HAVE YOU DONE ALL YOUR RESEARCH FIRST!!!!
Q2: Are you willing and able to get up and dedicate every 2 hours to hand feeding baby's day and night?
Can you fit this in your every day life?
Q3: Have you visited a breeder to learn and find out what you are thinking of getting into?
Q4: Do you have a vet? That is knowledgeable about chinchillas?

All chins need to be feed a high quality food,

There are a few
Lethal Factors that you HAVE GOT TO BE aware of. When pairing up and breeding
chinchillas. please do your research first!!!
****No White with White of any kind even White Ebony's counts (other examples Pink White, White Mosaics),
and no TOV (Touch of Velvet)  with a TOV, of any kind (examples Black Velvet, Brown Velvet, TOV Ebony or
TOV Mosaic also count and many more)
another great site for a helpful aid is

Any time you have a emergency or a problem please call your VET. HAVE A VET # ALREADY
Available before your emergency, and make sure they deal with chinchillas.

You will need to have a digital scale to weigh your baby in Grams, the average baby is about 50grams, when
born. (a extremely small baby is anywhere around 35grams, these are the ones that are off to a rough start,
and they may not make it. 50+ gram baby's are at a good weight)

If for some reason the mother chin does not have enough milk, or if she dies. Your need to be prepaired.
This is why I can not stress it enough that make sure you know what you are getting in to first!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now
it is up to you to feed the new baby's Every 2 hours day and night! So please make sure that you can fit this
into your daily life before you even pair up chinchillas.

An excellent article on Baby saving you can see at:
www.etc-etc.com/babysav.htm

Inflammation of the Mammary Gland (Mastitis) / Milk:
Always keep an eye on your babys, but if you see baby's fighting for food, you will need to check that the
mom has milk, and that the baby's have not bit or torn her open. These babys have very sharp teeth and can
cause injuries to mom, and other babys with these teeth. You should be checking your mother chin for milk all
the time though any way to always make sure she is healthy. She can start off not getting her milk in very
quick, the babys could start to fight right away. If this happens there is a hormone shot that the vet can give
her to help her start to produce milk. And She can have a lot milk at first and then a week latter could run out.
And always check the mother for damage control.
Some times Minor wounds can be treated with a topical antibiotics and warm compress.
Mastitis: when they are firm, enlarged, painful. Milk can be bloody and clotted. My friend has a chinchilla that
had to have hers removed after this happened. You will need a vet to administer the proper antibiotics. The
kits may need to be feed by another nursing mother or hand feed.

I have found that "Just born" It is my favorite Brand. Kitten and Puppy replacier milk works very well for me. I
personaly prefer the liquid that is all ready mixed. But the powder will work also. When warming the milk I like
to heat it on the stove, in a pot of water. I like to put the milk into a glass baby food jar to heat it and store it.
(DO NOT EVER PUT IT IN THE MICROWAVE TO HEAT IT!)
You will need to have a eye droper to feed your baby.

Try your best not to get milk on the hair around the face it will harden up and be very painful. It may even
make the baby stop eating. Be sure to wipe off any milk when done with each feeding with a moist cloth. Also I
can not tell you how important that it is to make sure you do not get any in the baby's nose.

Weigh your baby every day, the first day or two the baby maynot gain any weight or may drop a gram or two,
but after this the baby should begin to gain the weight.

If you are hand feeding, you need to feed newborn baby's for the first week every 2 hours, when they are a
week old you can push it back to every 2.5 -3 hours. And so on as the baby gets older. Some babys can be
little pigs, and will eat them self till they are bloated, do not let your baby eat this much, let him eat till he has
a little warm full tummy, but not to a bloated point.

******Did you know your chin could get pregnant 10 days before she gives birth. chinchillas have 2 uterus so
she can get pregnant even before she gives birth, and 10 days after. (Dust baths should not be given during
these times either.)

Baby chins should have their eyes open when born, if they are not put a drop of saline solution on it and
slowly work it open. It needs to be opened!

Little baby's can not tell distance, so they have no idea how far they are from the floor should they jump.
Baby's can also fit out of 1in by 1in wire squares, so make sure you have a cage to raise baby chins in, 1/2in
by 1in squares are the best(even the top of the cage needs to be this size. All cages need to have a solid
floor with your choice of bedding(never ceder)  (never use metale wire drop cage, or a cage with ramps in it.
Or a tall cage, that they could possibly crawl up the corner and fall down this can kill a baby. )

Hair Rings / Fur Rings
