He is a Mountain Coatimundi to be exact. They are in the Raccoon Family, they are like the South American Raccoon. Yes they are legal to have as a Pet in the State of Tennessee. Although if you are a breeder, you have to have a USDA. We do not breed Coatimundi's. ONLY CHINCHILLAS. His Name is Indy. He is a new member to our family. He is only 5 months old. He will get the size of a Large Cat / Med Dog. After doing much research: making sure this would be a good pet for my family, and talking to many breeders finding as much info as possible. Finally we found the right breeder to get our pet from (9+ hr drive). They have them for sale at a near by local pet store, but I do not buy animals from pet stores. Only repeatable breeders. He is super friendly! He thinks that he is Human. He jumps right in our arms. He walks on a leash, with a harness. But when we take him in the pet store, we keep him riding on our shoulders. Sounds: He has a squeak / whistle that he makes. It is really cool it is like no sound you have ever heard before. Food: He eats a cup of fresh fruit, and a cup of Purina Puppy Chow daily. Very easy to care for. His favorite fruit is Grapes. His favorite Treats are Organic Chicken, Duck, Salmon, and Tuna all made by the same company. He is very picky on his treats. Also he loves Fig Newtons, and Fruit loops. Just like our chins all treats are feed in moderation, and we like to lean toward Healthy Treats. Example, he only eats like 3 Fruit Loops once a week. Many people compare them to having a permanent 3 year old, you always have to keep your eye on and getting in to stuff. But honestly he is better then I every expected. He does great in our house. His potty training went better then I could have ever asked for. He loves our cocker spaniels we have. They all play together and have a blast. I hope to one day get a video of that and put that up one here (once I figure that out). We have recently turned one of our spare bed rooms in to his play room. We have a couch in there, and 2 tall cat play towers (we bought just for him), he loves to climb them and jump from thing to thing. He loves to go under the pillows of the couch. And run across it playing with Baily and Dodger our Cocker Spaniels. He will then run up his cat towers teasing the dogs. (To everyone reading this just because my dogs get along great with my Coatimundi this does not meant that yours will!) These pictures below are taken after the first week we had him. Before we had his play room done, we will have new pictures of his new play room coming very soon!!!!! |

| This is Indy's cage to the left ! And Grizly Cage to the Right! They are taller then me!!!! He lives in our Living Room with us. We do NOT keep our Coati Outside. He lives with us! He is still a baby right now, so this is his baby cage, as soon as he gets a little bigger we are going to make it even bigger. I am going to get a better picture of it with me standing by it to show how large it is. Soon. |
